The "chance to get away isn't as easy as it use to be" she said, but in early August, Caria did get that chance and cherishes that trip to this day. In her spare time, Caria loves to surf, hike, fish and spend time meandering, reading, swinging in a hanging hammock and relaxing.
She had heard the beaches and mountains of Mexico Gulf were "some of the most awesome" to explore, she grabbed her board and set her sites. "Among our general gear was a large hanging hammock for two,
each had a portable hammock and pen fishing rod for hiking, "we rested, read and played on the hanging hammock a lot" said Caria. The smaller portable hammock was light weight and small enough to throw over our shoulder for a hike and "that's just what we did".
Caria and a good friend, Dominic, took off for about ten days to hit the beaches and mountains in the Gulf of Mexico, they found a lot more than they expected. "The shore line was unbelievable", the waters were tropical, clear and turquoise and teaming with wild life and fish. Caria found many beaches off the beaten path with palms trees right on the beaches, excellent for calm digging, diving, a hanging hammock and hiking. One warm night Caria broke out some fine Tequila and her and Dominic soon found themselves stretched out in the hanging hammock on a moon-lite cove. They laid in the hanging hammock listening to the gentle crashing of the waves and watched as whales solemnly moved about, she thought "we must be in paradise, it doesn't get any better than this". The perfect cove and hanging hammock made for two was very romantic.
Caria and Dominic found hiking the gulf regions of Mexico to be similar to hiking some parts of California and the weather is nearly the same. The packs trips were not more than two nights long, "they led us to some of the most interesting places we've ever scene". Caria and Dominic discovered natural hot springs, calm coves, lakes, forest and of course their portable hammock was hung for the days end of relaxing and sleeping. "You don't normally talk of Mexico and lakes in the same breath" said Caria, in fact the lakes and streams through out Mexico are superb and "we couldn't wait to break out our pen fishing rods to catch a meal". A pen fishing rod and portable hammock are a must if you do any spontaneous fishing, packing or hiking, the pen fishing rod tucks away easily is light and reliable. Caria said "I always keep a portable hammock and pen fishing rod in my vehicle" just in case.
The majestic mountains, tropical coves and cool clear lakes were exactly what they needed to clear our heads and once again with portable hammock and pen fishing rod in hand, Caria and Dominic met the challenges of explorers before them. The trip as usual, was too short but like all get-a-ways will be forever etched in their memories. For now "we'll miss Mexico"!
